However, for that to work, Annabelle would have to find her way out of the blessed glass box to wreak havoc upon a new, unassuming group of people. From what we have seen in the franchise until now, and given the fierce proclivity of the ‘Conjuring’verse people to get themselves in danger, this doesn’t seem entirely impossible. Furthermore, ‘Annabelle Comes Home’ quite explicitly reveals the demon using the doll as a conduit as The Ram, a malevolent entity that draws its appearance from the animal of the same name. Demonologists Ed and Lorraine Warren confiscate the Annabelle doll from nurses Debbie and Camilla, who claimed that the doll often performed violent activities in their apartment. During the drive back home, the doll summons spirits to attack Ed, but he narrowly survives. Annabelle is locked in a sacred glass case in the couple's artifacts room that is blessed by Father Gordon to ensure the evil is contained.
The James Wan-produced Annabelle Comes Home showed a gentler side when it was not freaking audiences out with the killer doll and other ghosts. Fun for fans even if it isn't as frightening as some of its predecessors, Annabelle Comes Home suggests there's still some life left in the Conjuring franchise. Grace’s performance gives the audience an emotional connection to her character, allowing them to bond with Judy as she faces her fears. There is a heavy focus on traditional themes of good vs. evil and religion as a form of protection, with Judy providing an example of how taking back control of a situation can be empowering. While the Annabelle Comes Home cast is filled with talent, McKenna Grace stands out as Judy Warren.

After the doll's case is locked, the disturbances stop and the other spirits return to their slumber. The trio is also reunited with Bob, who has survived the hellhound's attacks. That's not to say Annabelle Comes Home wasn't intense because it certainly was, with its titular doll and ghostly manifestations that included a deadly samurai, a creepy ferryman, and a vicious werewolf.
There is not only a potential for future movies to focus on these spirits but also a large opportunity to explore their individual histories and origins. Annabelle Comes Home would not be as effective without the added intricacy and creatures. The film mainly trades inThe Conjuring series' tried-and-tested jump scares, with long sequences of expected build-up leading to a jolt from the sudden appearance of the doll or a spirit. However, no official confirmations have been made until now, so it might be a while before we can get a hook on that news.

One year later, they need to travel and leave their daughter Judy with the babysitter Mary Ellen. However the local newspaper question if the Warren are heroes or hoax and the snoopy teenager Daniela Rios, who recently lost her father, lures Mary Ellen and enters in the locked room expecting to contact her father. She releases the powerful Annabelle and the girls spend the night haunted by evil spirits. The movie does an excellent job of tying the entire Conjuring universe together cohesively and effectively. It ties the original storyline in with the new spirits and characters and seamlessly ties in with other movies in the franchise.

However, it also featured characters who went against the typical stereotypes seen in other horror movies and gave them arcs that were satisfying and unexpectedly heartwarming. This mix made Annabelle Comes Home feel like a sweet film disguised as a creepy one. One of the spinoff movies in The Conjuring universe -- Annabelle Comes Home -- recently joined the lineup of films available for streaming on HBO Max. The 2019 film distinguished itself from the other Annabelle movies by being the only one that involved the Warren family in its main action.

The acting in the movie was good, just a shame that the actresses and actors had so very little to work with. And mind you, the movie is not circling around Ed and Lorraine Warren, but instead focuses on their daughter and her babysitter. Just a heads up, in case you were expecting a movie with Ed and Lorraine.

When Lorraine took her aside, she told Daniela that her father's ghost said he still loved her and that his death was not her fault.
The Warrens function as mature professionals, of course, but the children lack the proper experience or knowledge to fully understand what’s chasing them. The next morning, Ed and Lorraine returns and the trio tell them about their struggles. Eventually Daniela apologizes to Lorraine, but Lorraine knows her ill-advised actions were the result of her wanting to contact her late father. Lorraine tells Daniela about a message she received from him, returning the picture of her father that Daniela had inserted in the bracelet earlier. The two then reunite with the others to join Judy's birthday party celebrations along with Judy's friends. Ed and Lorraine return the next morning, and the girls approach them to recount the eventful night.
The tension is expertly crafted, with Dauberman cleverly using sound design, camera angles, and an incredible soundtrack to create a truly frightening experience. So, not only isAnnabelle Comes Homeinherently scary because of the creepy doll premise, but the film also includes traditional gore that may upset some viewers. But for those who are familiar with the horror genre, the visuals might not seem that problematic. Annabelle Comes Home may feel extra creepy based on the doll’s backstory and the domestic setting. This film taps into the paranoia that drives so many ‘80s horror classics, as humans are essentially hunted within their own home.
One year later, in 1972, the Warrens welcome Mary Ellen, who will be in charge of babysitting the couple's daughter, Judy, to their home when they go overnight to investigate another case. At school, Judy sees the spirit of a priest that begins following her. After shopping at her friend's supermarket and talking with her crush, Bob Palmeri, Mary Ellen starts to bake a cake for Judy's birthday. Daniela, who is curious about speaking to the dead after the death of her father, gives a pair of roller skates to Judy as her birthday present and convinces her to play with Mary Ellen outside. While they are away, Daniela tries to get into the artifacts room but finds the room securely locked. The second direction could be a sequel, but set on different lines and centred on different characters with respect to this film, with the Warrens being the only common thread connecting the two.

However, this was not the only way that Annabelle Comes Home set itself apart in the franchise. Unlike the other entries -- which were all produced by frequent horror director James Wan -- the film set out to be more than just a scary movie. I think this third Annabelle movie was trying to keep the cycle of Conjuverse going, and somehow, it successfully did. The attention to detail through design, the cinematography, and the film score makes the movie look and feels very much retro, and the effort with it, is paid-off. It also emphasize the theme about facing-your-fears, the compassion of friendship, and the subtle message of obidience. However, this sort of emphasis makes the natural essence of turmoil within the movie's concept blurry, unheavy and inconsequential.
It’s a gleefully surprising yet typical ending for a horror movie, with ‘Dancing in the Moonlight’ by King Harvest playing as the eerily colourful credits roll, and since the movie is part of larger, shared universe, one could usually expect a hint or two. To be fair though, none of the ‘Annabelle’ movies, nor many of the other movies in the franchise have post credits setting up future films, with most of the world building happening within the films’ runtime. Akin to the other films in the ‘Conjuring’verse, ‘Annabelle Comes Home’ has a ton of call-backs to previous films in the shared horror universe and a lot of stuff that sets up potential future movies.
Annabelle Comes Home was theatrically released in the United States on June 26, 2019, by Warner Bros. It was originally scheduled for release on July 3, 2019, but was later moved up to June 28, and then to June 26. Annabelle Comes Home was released on Digital HD on September 17, 2019, and on Blu-ray and DVD on October 8, 2019. It was released in a May 2022 Blu-ray collection with the other The Conjuring Universe movies. There were absolutely no scares throughout the course of "Annabelle Comes Home" for a seasoned horror veteran such as myself. Still, I have seen the movies, solely because I have had the chance, and because I do enjoy horror movies.
Judy explains that they must lock Annabelle in her case again so that the other spirits will rest. Bob protects Judy from the Black Shuck as she retrieves Mary Ellen's asthma inhaler, while Daniela is attacked and possessed by the Bride. Eventually, Mary Ellen and Judy find the doll when the ghostly priest, acting as Judy's guardian, guides them to the Ferryman. They manage to retrieve the glass case's key after they are attacked by demonic hands from the Feeley Meeley board game, and a possessed Daniela, but struggle to secure the case as the demon of the doll physically attacks them. Daniela recovers when Judy plays Ed's recorded footage of the Bride's exorcism, and helps put the doll back in the case. After the case is locked, the disturbances cease as the spirits return to their slumber, and Bob reunites with the trio.
